HANS ZIMMER

Hans Zimmer is considered as one of Hollywood’s most innovative composers of all time. Born in Frankfurt, Germany, from a father who was an engineer, and a very musical mother, Hans Zimmer started playing the piano when he was a child. Only two weeks after formal piano lessons, he became bored playing musical banalities and tried to find other ways to express the music he heard in his head. Zimmer was expelled from eight schools due to his preference of studying music instead of schoolwork, and chaotically expressing his artistic ambitions to the dislike of his superiors. After moving to London, he joined a band and played in all kinds of pubs. Things started to pick up and after working with Trevor Horn and Geoff Downes on The Buggles’ “Video Killed The Radio Star”, his direction was settled for Hollywood. Zimmer’s work on Rain Man in 1988 was nominated for an Academy Award and had set the tone for all of the iconic, successful works that followed. Amongst many others, Hans Zimmer has scored The Lion King, Gladiator, Pirates of the Caribbean, The Dark Knight, Sherlock Holmes, Inception, Interstellar, and his latest Academy Award-winning triumph Dune.
